Speaker: Bishop Dr. Marvin E. Donaldson
Text: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5
Notes taken by Sister Mishunda

In this moving sermon, Bishop Donaldson encouraged us to continue, with patience, in our pursuit of God. Below are my notes, though I am confident you will be blessed if you get a copy of the message of CD or DVD. Contact the church to place an order.

We want God to move expeditiously when we start doing the right thing, but Jesus says if you love me you will keep on doing the right thing. (The scripture says in Galatians 6:9 that in due season we will reap if we faint not.)

The saints of God need to become more involved in the things of this life, rather than being so passive. Do the things that men and women have died giving us the right to do (such as vote).

In verse 2 of the text for this sermon, Paul tells us that all he wants to know of the Corinthians is Jesus–he only wants to talk about Jesus Christ.

Soon, Bishop Donaldonson will call for a telephone fast for the members of GPT to keep us from idle conversations. Remember: you’ve got six months out of the year to mind your own business and six months to stay out of other folks’.

The Corinthians at this time were living just any way they pleased, doing whatever they wanted to do, though they were “religious” fanatics, with churches on every corner and regular attendance. Like us, they did the things that look right, but it was only a form of godliness.

Many people were OK with not having the church in them and instead just getting into church.

The Corinthians worshipped many gods, such as Isis and Apollo.

How many know what happens outside the church usually makes its way into the church?

The Corinthians were rebellious & stubborn & had an air of superiority.

So many of us take everything God does for us for granted.

Bishop admonished us: “I dare you to press your way through and give God an anyhow praise. PRAYER begs God, but PRAISE says thank you. PRAYER is wondering if God will, but PRAISE is knowing its already done. PRAYER moves mountains, but PRAISE moves GOD.”

Jesus is the reason you are still here, and not anything you have done under your own power.

Paul could have easily rationalized his point and won his arguement on the basis on fact and knowledge.

We, as Christians, often get so concerned with winning arguements that we lose souls.

Try to point lost sould to calvary. Remember it the power of God unto salvation.

Yokes are not broken by vocabulary; deliverance is is not wrought by rhetoric, but by calvary alone!

Paul tells the church at Corinth I hear you bragging but you have not attained, or have not made it, yet.

Quit looking at those around you like you got it all together. If you just wait awhile, “there is a test that if God does not keep you it will have you whipped like butter!”

God has some people waiting to come into the house who mean Jesus all the way. Get out of the way! Church cliques… the self-appointed church elite. “Get yo purse out of the way” and let them sit down.

Everything the devil hurls against you is meant to take you out, but he keeps failing because you’re covered by the blood and the anointing.

Declare boldly: “But I’m still here!”

Quit waiting for folk to carry you through and to pat you on your back for all you have been through.

Are you waiting for God to move? Praise Him now, because He moves in time eternal and you just catch up to the move of God that has already taken place!

Your comments are welcome!
